Ingredients
- Vanilla Wafer Cookies: 1 (11-ounce) box
- Orange Gelatin: 1 (3-ounce) package
- Boiling Water: 1 cup
- Cold Water: 1 cup
- Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix: 1 (3.4-ounce) package
- Milk: 2 cups
- Cool Whip: 8 ounces, thawed
Instructions
- Step 1: In a bowl, dissolve the orange gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved, then add 1 cup of cold water. Refrigerate until partially set (about 1-1.5 hours). It should be thick, but not completely solid.
- Step 2: While the gelatin is chilling, prepare the vanilla pudding according to package directions using 2 cups of milk. Set aside.
- Step 3: Once the gelatin is partially set, gently fold in half of the Cool Whip until well combined, creating an orange cream mixture.
- Step 4: In a trifle bowl (or large glass bowl), layer vanilla wafer cookies, followed by half of the pudding, and then half of the orange cream mixture.
- Step 5: Repeat the layers: vanilla wafer cookies, remaining pudding, and remaining orange cream mixture.
- Step 6: Top the trifle with the remaining Cool Whip. You can decorate with additional vanilla wafers or orange zest, if desired. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the trifle to set completely.
Notes
- To prevent soggy cookies, lightly brush them with melted white chocolate on one side before layering.
- Store leftover trifle in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but the cookie texture will soften over time.
- Garnish individual servings with orange segments for a burst of fresh citrus flavor that complements the creamy dessert.
- For an extra smooth texture, ensure the gelatin is only partially set before folding in the Cool Whip; avoid completely solidifying it.
