Ingredients
Scale
- 3 pounds ground beef
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Drain off any excess grease.
- Step 2: Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot with the ground beef. Cook until the onions are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Step 3: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir in the olive oil, dried oregano, and dried basil.
- Step 4: Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours for a richer flavor, stirring occasionally.
- Step 5: Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving. Serve over cooked spaghetti.
Notes
- For easier cleanup later, consider using a pot that is dishwasher-safe.
- Reheat leftover sauce gently over low heat, adding a splash of water if it's too thick.
- This hearty sauce is delicious served over spaghetti squash for a lighter, healthier meal.
- Don't skimp on the simmer time; the longer it cooks, the more the flavors meld and deepen!
