Ingredients
- White chocolate chips: 12 ounces
- Cream cheese, softened: 4 ounces
- Orange extract: 1 teaspoon
- Orange zest: 1 tablespoon
- Powdered sugar: 1/2 cup (for rolling)
- Vegetable shortening: 1 teaspoon (optional, for smoother melting)
- Heavy cream: 2 tablespoons
- Optional: Orange candy melts for dipping and decoration
Instructions
- Step 1: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips with the vegetable shortening (if using) in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely smooth. Be careful not to overheat.
- Step 2: Add the softened cream cheese, orange extract, and orange zest to the melted white chocolate. Mix well until fully combined and smooth. Add the heavy cream and mix until just combined.
- Step 3: Cover the mixture with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the chocolate mixture. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, until firm enough to roll.
- Step 4: Once the mixture is firm, use a spoon or small cookie scoop to portion out the truffle mixture. Roll each portion into a smooth ball using your hands.
- Step 5: Roll each truffle in powdered sugar, coating it completely.
- Step 6: (Optional) Melt orange candy melts according to package instructions. Dip each truffle into the melted candy and place on parchment paper to set. Drizzle with extra candy melts for decoration.
Notes
- Store these truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
- If your truffles get too cold and firm, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for a softer bite.
- Serve these chilled as a delightful after-dinner treat, or arrange them prettily on a dessert platter for a special occasion.
- To intensify the orange flavor, gently rub the orange zest with your fingers before adding it to the melted chocolate to release its oils.
