Ingredients
- White chocolate chips: 12 ounces
- Heavy cream: 1/2 cup
- Orange extract: 1 teaspoon
- Orange zest: 1 tablespoon
- Powdered sugar: 1/4 cup (for rolling)
- Vegetable shortening: 1 teaspoon (optional, for smoother chocolate)
- Melted white chocolate: 2 ounces (for coating, optional)
- Sprinkles or orange zest: To garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: In a heat-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- Step 2: Stir in the orange extract and orange zest until well combined. If desired, stir in the vegetable shortening to create a smoother chocolate.
- Step 3: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the chocolate mixture. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, until firm enough to roll.
- Step 4: Once firm, use a small spoon or melon baller to scoop out portions of the chocolate mixture. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
- Step 5: Roll each truffle in powdered sugar to coat. Alternatively, dip in melted white chocolate and immediately garnish with sprinkles or orange zest.
- Step 6: Place the truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow them to set completely before serving.
Notes
- Store these decadent truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- While reheating isn't recommended, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving to soften slightly for optimal flavor.
- Serve these chilled truffles alongside a cup of hot cocoa for a delightful contrast in temperature and taste.
- For an extra burst of orange flavor, gently rub the orange zest with your fingers before adding it to release its fragrant oils.
